FSC solid wood single bed • Dahlia

This bed is inspired by the pillars of Pikler-Lóczy education: independent activities and freedom of movement. With a base close to the floor, it is easy to access for getting up and going to bed independently, and reduces the risk of falling when doing so alone, especially when our children are tired or just waking up.

This model also provides greater protection against falls thanks to its asymmetrical bed rails, which also allow children who wish to do so to sit on the edge of the mattress or snuggle into the corner to sleep.

Since sleep is a key stage of development, it is important that it not be a source of stress. The Dahlia bed allows our children to go to bed on their own and reduces the risk of them experiencing bedtime as a constraint. Likewise, being able to get out of bed on their own means they do not have to call out, shout, or become frustrated because it takes too long for someone to come.

This independence makes it easier for them to create their own bedtime routines. These routines may continue the habits developed with their parents or be new habits built independently.

This bed also gives children the opportunity to play, read, and live independently, without adult intervention, while also allowing them to share quiet moments together before bedtime to read a story, talk about their day, or have a cuddle before falling asleep.

Manufacturing partner

Anna's carpentry workshop has made children's beds its specialty, with the mission of creating furniture that supports both healthy, restful sleep and playtime that will stimulate their imagination for as long as possible. It is therefore no surprise that the team's watchwords are: safety, comfort, design and durability.

It is in their workshop in southeastern Poland that their designers create elegant, timeless pieces from pine wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. Because a bedroom should also feel full of life, Anna's beds will energize your child during the day and protect their sleep at night.

What is the educational value of this product?

A child's bed is one of the first places where they learn to move their body. The different stages of this learning process, as described in Pikler-Lóczy pedagogy, begin with lying on their back, then turning their head, moving their hands, turning onto their side, rolling onto their stomach, returning to their back, spending time on their stomach, stretching, rolling, crawling on their stomach and then on all fours, standing up, sitting down, standing unaided, and finally walking independently.

Their bed will support each of these stages of development. It is where they will establish their routines and habits for getting up and going to bed, concepts that are central to the approaches of Rudolf Steiner and Charlotte Mason.

From this perspective, it will support their autonomy and freedom - both to play in it and to choose when to go to bed - values that are highly important to Emmi Pikler and Maria Montessori.

What is its value from a neuroscience perspective?

• Contributes to the child's sleep and brain plasticity.

What role does sleep play in development and brain plasticity?

During the day, everything a child experiences actively, and sometimes even passively, affects their learning and therefore their plasticity. When they are awake, their experiences release neurotransmitters that “mark” the neurons and synapses involved in these different experiences, thereby strengthening neural circuits. However, the remodeling of the neural connections themselves takes place during sleep.

Quality rest involves several things for our child:

- fully restored energy levels, which optimize their concentration.

- optimal concentration during their active periods, which promotes their cognitive development.

- facilitating their brain plasticity.
Good sleep is therefore more restorative and gives our children all the energy they need to learn, thrive, and develop to the best of their abilities.

What is the value of this product in summary?

• Facilitate their sleep and brain plasticity.
• Learn to be independent.
• Develop routines and habits.
