To allow children to learn freely while developing their autonomy, Agata draws inspiration from Montessori pedagogy. From the banks of the Dunajec, it contributes to their prepared environment by designing and handcrafting storage furniture suitable for their size, as well as for different types of interiors, taking into account the various constraints parents face when it comes to maximizing space in the home.
With ingenious ideas and following the principles of Maria Montessori regarding the beauty of products and the nobility of materials, her small family business continues to innovate, with artisanal creations that delight children and decorate their rooms like others rooms of the house.
What is the educational benefit of this product?
Shelves are an important element in child development because they facilitate autonomy.
At Maria Montessori, they are one of the essential elements of the prepared environment in which children will get busy with their activities and “work” freely. They also accompany them in the sensitive period of order and coordination of movements.
This idea of supporting the development of autonomy applies to all active teaching methods.
The shelves will be one of the places where children can find the tools or materials they need for their craft work at Steiner or as part of the projects in the Reggio Emilia pedagogy strong>.
They will also find their tools, dear to Célestin Freinet, and their games, essential at Ovide Decroly, as well as their “gifts” and “occupations” at Friedrich Fröbel.
They will support our children's independent activities, fundamental in the Pikler-Lóczy pedagogy.
This is also where they will pick up their “living books”, so important to Charlotte Mason, where they will discover extraordinary stories and characters who will feed their imagination, as they have fed ours.
What is the interest from a neuroscience point of view?
- Participation in sensorimotor and cognitive development (*Through the exercise of tasks that require precision and planning (storage and arrangement of objects and books).
- Strengthening neural circuits through repetition of gestures and tasks.
What is sensorimotor development?
Sensorimotor development is the process by which children develop their senses and learn to perform, control and coordinate their movements.
The senses include the best known ones: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, but also balance (thanks to the vestibular system) and proprioception (position of the body in space, given by the somatosensory system).
These different senses work in concert with each other and with the motor system.
In terms of motor development, we can distinguish two main categories of motor skills:
- gross motor skills, which refers to movements of the whole body or the large limbs and muscles of the body (legs, arms, trunk, head),
- fine motor skills, which refers to the movements of smaller muscles and limbs (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, tongue).
What is cognitive development?
Cognitive development is the process by which children acquire, organize and learn to use knowledge. Cognitive skills are numerous, varied, and are orchestrated by executive functions. They include, among others, language, goal-directed behaviors, planning, cognitive flexibility, short-term memory (or working memory), long-term memory, the ability not to be distracted, to control emotional reactions, etc.
