    Manufacturing partner

To enable children to learn freely while developing their independence, Agata was inspired by Montessori education. From the banks of the Dunajec, it contributes to their prepared environment by designing and handcrafting storage furniture adapted to their size, as well as to different types of interiors, taking into account the various constraints parents face when trying to maximize space in the home.
With ingenious ideas and by following Maria Montessori’s principles regarding product beauty and the nobility of materials, this small family business continues to innovate with handcrafted creations that delight children and decorate their bedrooms as well as the other rooms in the home.

    Educational value

What is the educational value of this product?

Shelves are an important element in a child’s development because they facilitate independence.
For Maria Montessori, they are one of the essential elements of the prepared environment in which children freely engage in their activities and “work”. They also support children during the sensitive period for order and coordination of movement.
This idea of supporting the development of independence applies to all active educational approaches.

Shelves will be one of the places where children can find the tools or materials they need for their craftwork in Steiner education or as part of projects in the Reggio Emilia approach.
They will also find their tools, so important to Célestin Freinet, and their games, essential for Ovide Decroly, as well as their “gifts” and “occupations” for Friedrich Fröbel.

They will support our children’s independent activities, which are fundamental to the Pikler-Lóczy approach.
This is also where they will go to find their “living books”, so important to Charlotte Mason, where they will discover extraordinary stories and characters that will nourish their imagination, just as they nourished ours.

    What is the neuroscience perspective?

    • Participation in sensorimotor and cognitive development (*Through practicing tasks that require precision and planning (organizing and arranging objects and books).
    • Strengthening neural circuits through the repetition of movements and tasks.

    What is sensorimotor development?

Sensorimotor development is the process through which children develop their senses and learn to perform, master, and coordinate their movements.

The senses include the best-known ones: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, as well as balance (through the vestibular system) and proprioception (the position of the body in space, provided by the somatosensory system).

These different senses work together and in coordination with the motor system.

In terms of motor development, two main categories of motor skills can be distinguished:

    • gross motor skills, which refer to movements of the entire body or its larger limbs and muscles (legs, arms, torso, head),
    • fine motor skills, which refer to movements of smaller muscles and limbs (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, tongue).

    What is cognitive development?

Cognitive development is the process through which children acquire, organize, and learn to use knowledge. Cognitive skills are numerous and varied, and are orchestrated by executive functions. They include, among other things, language, goal-directed behaviors, planning, cognitive flexibility, short-term memory (or working memory), long-term memory, the ability not to be distracted, the ability to control emotional reactions, etc.

What is the value of this product in summary?

    • Cultivate a sense of order.
    • Develop fine motor skills.
    • Learn to be independent.
    • Strengthen self-confidence.
