Square velvet play mat 120cm - Gray

This foam mat provides our children with protection from falls, soft support for their physical activities, and comfort when they spend time on the floor.

It is suitable for any type of space and easy to store thanks to its 4 sections. These features also make it a great way for children to use it however they like and let their imaginations run free: it can become one or two seats, a backrest, or a sofa. They can adapt it to their activities and do whatever they feel like.

Because accidents happen, whether it’s a spilled drink, a snack that leaves marks, or a diaper mishap, its removable cover is easy to machine-wash.

Indoors or outdoors, the play mat can also be used as a base for other toys, play structures, and furniture, cushioning any uncontrolled dismount or accidental fall.

Children can jump on it, roll around, let themselves fall, lie down, rest, or sit on it to play, concentrate, or read, staying comfortable and protected from both cold and heat - while parents can let them do so freely, with peace of mind.

What are the educational benefits of this product?

As part of free play, recommended by all active educational approaches, the motor-skills mat is an essential aid for providing a sense of security, particularly for younger children.

It can support children as they learn about their bodies and master their movements. In the Pikler-Lóczy approach, particularly between 0 and 3 years of age, children are allowed to act without adults intervening in their postures; they initiate their own movements. This is the principle of free movement.

This mat can also be used to define areas within a prepared environment, as in the Montessori method. It is also an ideal support during the sensitive period for the coordination of movements identified by Maria Montessori, which children experience from approximately 18 months to 4 years of age.

What are the benefits from a neuroscience perspective?

• Contribution to sensorimotor development* (*By supporting all their physical activities).
• Strengthening neural pathways through the repetition of movements.

What is sensorimotor development?

Sensorimotor development is the process through which children develop their senses and learn to perform, master, and coordinate their movements.

The senses include the best-known ones, namely sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, as well as balance (through the vestibular system) and proprioception (awareness of the body's position in space, provided by the somatosensory system).

These different senses work together and in conjunction with the motor system.

In terms of motor development, two main categories of motor skills can be distinguished:

• gross motor skills, which refer to movements involving the whole body or larger body parts and muscles (legs, arms, torso, and head),
• fine motor skills, which refer to movements involving smaller muscles and body parts (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, and tongue).

What age ranges is it suitable for?

The play mat can be used from birth to support your child as they develop their motor skills and independence. The motor-skills mat can be used throughout their childhood.

What are the product's key benefits, in summary?

• Develop motor skills.
• Learn to be independent.
• Build self-confidence.
