What is the educational value of this product?

Our children observe and learn by participating in everyday tasks and activities, while having the freedom to climb onto and down from their step stool independently, and to do things as we do - or in their own way - with us or independently.

Freedom of movement is at the heart of active educational approaches; it is even fundamental to Emmi Pikler’s approach, and the step stool relates to many principles that these approaches share, as well as principles specific to some of them.

For example, it relates to “atmosphere,” a pillar of the Mason approach. Charlotte Mason believed that the opportunities offered by the environment in which the child already lives should be used to educate them. Children learn and should learn from real things in the real world. Observation also plays an important role in this approach, as it does in the approaches of Freinet and Decroly.
It also supports the expression of the “100 languages,” which is at the heart of the Reggio approach. Through it, children learn and discover, but also express their creativity. Rudolf Steiner also considered creativity essential to children’s development, giving the Waldorf approach a central place for the expression of imagination and art.

What are the benefits from a neuroscience perspective?

What is sensory-motor development?

Sensory-motor development is the process through which children develop their senses and learn to perform, master, and coordinate their movements.

The senses include the best-known ones - sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch - as well as balance (through the vestibular system) and proprioception (the body’s position in space, provided by the somatosensory system). 

These different senses work together and in conjunction with the motor system.

In terms of motor development, two main categories of motor skills can be distinguished:

• gross motor skills, which refer to movements of the entire body or the body’s larger limbs and muscles (legs, arms, torso, and head),
• fine motor skills, which refer to movements of smaller muscles and limbs (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, and tongue).

What is cognitive development?

Cognitive development is the process through which children acquire, organize, and learn to use knowledge. Cognitive skills are numerous and varied, and are orchestrated by executive functions. They include, among others, language, goal-directed behavior, planning, cognitive flexibility, short-term memory (or working memory), long-term memory, the ability not to be distracted, the ability to control emotional reactions, etc.

What is socio-emotional development?

Socio-emotional development is the process through which children acquire the ability to understand, express, and manage their thoughts, emotions, and behavior. 
Social and emotional skills are also directly related to how children perceive themselves and develop relationships with others.

What age ranges is it suitable for?

The step stool can be used once your child can stand steadily on their own. It supports many everyday activities such as washing hands, cooking, shelling eggs, washing dishes, etc., as well as creative activities such as salt dough, modeling clay, cutting, etc.

• This product is shipped from Latvia by our artisan partner Sandra and Jānis.
• Delivery times are 10 to 15 business days.
• Shipping is handled by Fedex, except in exceptional circumstances. 
• Once your parcel has been shipped, a tracking number will be sent to you by email.

Returns 

Have you received your item but it is not suitable for you? Don't worry, you have 14 days from the date you receive your parcel to return the product concerned. 

As a small family business, we are unfortunately not yet able to cover postage costs, so return costs are the customer's responsibility, and returns must be sent to the country from which this product was shipped, Latvia.

To be eligible for a return, please ensure that the following conditions are met :

• The product must arrive in its original, complete condition (packaging, accessories, instructions).
• The request must not concern made-to-measure products for which the customer provided personalization details (for example, a cutting or manufacturing dimension).

Please understand that we cannot accept assembled, used, or worn items, as they cannot be resold.

⚠ Please note that a return received without prior contact may result in the loss of your right of withdrawal. 

Refund 

The refund will be issued within 14 days of receiving the products, for the full amount of the returned products, using the same payment method as the one used for the order.
