What is the educational value of this product?
Imaginative play is part of childhood and identity formation. Rudolf Steiner defined the first stage of childhood, from 0 to 7 years old, as the stage of imitation - during which the child moves from being one with their mother to becoming a social and autonomous individual, and in which imaginative imitation plays a decisive role, alongside open-ended play. The child will learn and discover through it, while also expressing their creativity, and the pram will support the expression of the “100 languages”, a cornerstone of Reggio pedagogy.
Through imaginative play, children reproduce the behaviors they observe around them, progressing from simple imitation to the creation of complex scenarios and role-play in which they are no longer the main actor but the director.
Jean-Ovide Decroly considered imitation and play to be “anticipatory instincts”, essential maturation factors that give children a comprehensive understanding of reality. For Célestin Freinet, through imitation, just as through observation or reading, individuals appropriate other people’s experiences, diversifying and accelerating their own personal experience.
The importance of observation can also be found in the work of Maria Montessori, who described the role of the absorbent mind in children’s learning and the importance of following their mother everywhere in order to observe the world. By supporting imaginative play and helping with cooking, the pram will contribute to sensitive periods for movement coordination (from approximately 18 months to 4 years), order (from 0 to 6 years), social behavior (from approximately 2 to 6 years), refinement of the senses (approximately 18 months - 5 years), and small objects (during the second year).
Taking part and doing things “for real” with their parents gives children the opportunity to learn from real things in the real world, as advocated by Charlotte Mason.
What is its value from a neuroscience perspective?
- Contributes to sensory-motor, cognitive and socio-emotional development* (*Through imitating kitchen activities that require precision and planning (putting away and arranging small objects), role-play, and interactions with adults and other children.)
- Strengthens neural circuits through the repetition of movements, tasks and interactions.
What is sensory-motor development?
Sensory-motor development is the process through which children develop their senses and learn to perform, master and coordinate their movements.
The senses include the best-known ones - sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch - as well as balance (through the vestibular system) and proprioception (the position of the body in space, provided by the somatosensory system).
These different senses work together and in conjunction with the motor system.
In terms of motor development, two main categories of motor skills can be distinguished:
- gross motor skills, which refer to movements of the whole body or the body’s larger limbs and muscles (legs, arms, torso, head),
- fine motor skills, which refer to movements of smaller muscles and limbs (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, tongue).
What is cognitive development?
Cognitive development is the process through which children acquire, organize and learn to use knowledge. Cognitive skills are numerous and varied, and are orchestrated by executive functions. They include, among other things, language, goal-directed behavior, planning, cognitive flexibility, short-term memory (or working memory), long-term memory, the ability not to become distracted, the ability to control emotional reactions, and so on.
What is socio-emotional development?
Socio-emotional development is the process through which children acquire the ability to understand, express and manage their thoughts, emotions and behavior.
Social and emotional skills are also directly linked to how children perceive themselves and develop relationships with others.
What age range is it suitable for?
The pram is useful from the moment children begin imitating adults’ activities in their play and contributing to household tasks, at approximately 18 months. Imaginative play is suitable until approximately 4 to 6 years old, and children can engage in it alone or with others.
What are the benefits of this product in summary?

- Support imaginative play
- Nurture imagination
