Description

In the introduction to learning to ride a bike as well as in the development of balance and proprioception, the balance bike is one of the essentials. It respects the child's natural posture while introducing them to the basics of cycling: driving with handlebars, gaining speed on two wheels, coordinating their eyes and hands, or even finding their center of gravity while sitting on a saddle.
But its lifespan is limited: it is often too big for our little beginners, quickly made obsolete because of their rapid growth when the time comes to learn to pedal or move on to a traditional bike. At best, it is given away, at worst it gathers dust in a corner of the garage or ends up in the dumpster...

This is where the ingenuity of the evolving balance bike comes in.
Alone, its 3 basic configurations adapt to the size of our children who will be able to use it from their first steps until around 5 years old.
The low configuration is suitable for the little ones who, when older, can switch to the comfort configuration (which offers them soft suspension) or the sporty configuration (with suspension perfectly adapted to rough roads), depending on their preference.

To adapt to children's development and their pace, its extensions (sold separately) allow it to be fitted with a brake and a footrest, or to transform it into a rocking elephant or tricycle if necessary. the youngest, or even by bike for older children and adventurers who can then use it up to around 6 years old.

A meeting between craftsmanship, innovation and sustainable development, the evolving balance bike is light, stable, solid and flexible thanks to the natural spring of the wood.
It is also the comfort of learning to ride a bike on a reassuring support, which the child knows, of which he has already mastered certain subtleties and which will allow him to set off with confidence towards a new major stage of his autonomy.

Educational interest

What is the educational benefit of this product?

Letting the child learn at his own pace is one of the most fundamental concepts that active pedagogies have in common, alongside other major pillars such as free play, the development of autonomy or openness towards exterior and nature in particular.

Each of these principles is represented in what the evolving balance bike offers.

Where it will serve the development of motor skills, it is the discovery of the body through movement, so characteristic of the Pikler-Lóczy pedagogy, which will be engaged.
Learning to hold a heading, keep balance, turn, gain speed through the alternating and repeated movement of the feet, as well as using them to learn to decelerate and stop, allows the child to learn to master their gestures and the coordination of their movements.
The latter, in Montessori pedagogy, is one of the sensitive periods that young children go through.
Thanks to its ingenious design, it accompanies children over time. They will be able to grow by discovering the world around them, nature, and spending a lot of time outdoors as recommended by the Reggio, Waldorf, Freinet pedagogies. strong>, Mason (at least 6 hours a day outside for the latter, every day until they are 6 years old).
With the evolving balance bike, the child gropes, practices, makes mistakes, starts again, at his own pace, and follows the learning process described by Célestin Freinet, Maria Montesori, and others.

What is the interest from a neuroscience point of view?

  • Participation in sensorimotor development (*Through balance, coordination of movements, speed and proprioception).
  • Strengthening neural circuits through repetition of movements and experiences.

What is sensorimotor development?

Sensorimotor development is the process by which children develop their senses and learn to perform, control and coordinate their movements.

The senses include the best known ones: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, but also balance (thanks to the vestibular system) and proprioception (position of the body in space, given by the somatosensory system).

These different senses work in concert with each other and with the motor system.

In terms of motor development, we can distinguish two main categories of motor skills:

  • gross motor skills, which refers to movements of the whole body or the large limbs and muscles of the body (legs, arms, trunk, head),
  • fine motor skills, which refers to the movements of smaller muscles and limbs (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, tongue).

What age groups is it suitable for?

By allowing its size to be adjusted, the adjustable balance bike alone can be used between approximately 10 months and 5 years.
With its extensions, its lifespan extends from 6 months for the rocking elephant to around 6 years for the bike.

What is the point of this product in summary?

  • Discover the world around you.
  • Develop motor skills, coordination, balance and proprioception.
  • Learn to be independent.
  • Strengthen his self-confidence.
