Description

Active pedagogies emphasize the accessibility and autonomy of children, and the guiding role of parents. The learning tours are the meeting between the freedom advocated by these teaching methods and the ingenuity of carpentry.

This tower is a wonderful tool for involving our children in daily tasks around the house but also for supporting their creative, concentration and play activities.

The child will use it to observe, do things alone, or share moments with us. For example in the kitchen, where the children learn while helping us. They arrange, arrange, clean, cut, spread, stir... They also discover textures, sounds, smells and tastes, as well as the pleasure of doing things together.

Large and solid, made from natural materials, this learning tower is designed so that our children can test and develop their abilities in complete safety.

    Educational interest

What is the educational benefit of this product?

Our children observe and learn by participating in daily tasks and activities, while having the freedom to climb on and off their tower freely, and to do as we do - or as they do - with us independently.

Free motor skills are at the heart of active pedagogies, it is even constitutive of the pedagogy of Emmi Pikler, and the learning tower touches on many principles which are common to them as well as specific to some.

The adjustable tower will, for example, touch on the “atmosphere”, a pillar of Mason pedagogy. Charlotte Mason considers that it is necessary to take advantage of the possibilities offered by the environment in which the child already lives to educate him. Children learn and must learn from real things in the real world. Observation also plays an important role, as with Freinet or Decroly.
It will also be a support for the expression of the “100 languages”, which is at the heart of Reggio pedagogy. The child will learn and discover there, but also express his creativity. Rudolf Steiner also considered that creativity was essential in the development of the child, giving Waldorf pedagogy a central place for the expression of imagination and art.

The learning tower is often called a “Montessori tower”, this name is incorrect in the sense that it is not part of the Montessori material. Maria Montessori considered that the child's environment must be adapted to his physical abilities, but also that it must be arranged to be at his height, not to bring him to the height of an adult. On the other hand, the tower meets certain principles of its pedagogy. Maria Montessori thought, for example, that a child looks and stores information of immense interest to him when he accompanies his mother, but also that he cannot think without his hands, things that the tower favors, just like her allows the child to facilitate his freedom of choice and movement in his activities.

It should be noted that during the age group at which children use their tower, they go through all of the Montessori sensitive periods, those of language (approximately 2 months - 6 years), of coordination of movements ( approximately 18 months - 4 years), order (approximately 0 - 6 years), refinement of the senses (approximately 18 months - 5 years), social behavior (approximately 2.5 years - 6 years), small objects (during the 2nd year).
And the adjustable tower will be a support for all kinds of activities corresponding to each of these periods.

What is the interest from a neuroscience point of view?

    • Participation in sensorimotor, cognitive and socio-affective development (*Through participation in household tasks that require precision and/or planning (cooking, storing objects, etc.), in activities hygiene (such as washing hands, cleaning dishes), and interactions with adults and children in the family).
    • Strengthening neural circuits through repetition of gestures, tasks and interactions.

    What is sensorimotor development?

Sensorimotor development is the process by which children develop their senses and learn to perform, control and coordinate their movements.

The senses include the best known ones: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, but also balance (thanks to the vestibular system) and proprioception (position of the body in space, given by the somatosensory system).

These different senses work in concert with each other and with the motor system.

In terms of motor development, we can distinguish two main categories of motor skills:

    • gross motor skills, which refers to movements of the whole body or the large limbs and muscles of the body (legs, arms, trunk, head),
    • fine motor skills, which refers to the movements of smaller muscles and limbs (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, tongue).

    What is cognitive development?

Cognitive development is the process by which children acquire, organize and learn to use knowledge. Cognitive skills are numerous, varied, and are orchestrated by executive functions. They include, among others, language, goal-directed behaviors, planning, cognitive flexibility, short-term memory (or working memory), long-term memory, the ability not to be distracted, to control emotional reactions, etc.

    What is socio-emotional development?

Social-emotional development is the process by which children acquire the ability to understand, express and manage their thoughts, emotions and behavior.
Social and emotional skills are also directly linked to how they perceive themselves and develop relationships with others.

What age groups is it suitable for?

The learning tower can be used from the time your child is able to stand up independently until approximately 5 or 6 years old. It serves as a support for many everyday activities such as washing hands, cooking, peeling eggs, washing dishes, etc., and for creative games such as salt dough, modeling clay, cutting, etc.

What is the point of this product in summary?

    • Discover the world around you.
    • Develop motor skills, including fine motor skills.
    • Practice daily tasks.
    • Learn to be independent.
    • Strengthen his self-confidence.
    • Collaborate on projects, guided by parents.
