What is the educational value of this product?

Pretend play is part of childhood and identity development. Rudolf Steiner defined the first stage of childhood, from 0 to 7 years, as the stage of imitation - during which the child goes from being one with their mother to becoming a social and autonomous individual, and in which imaginative imitation plays a decisive role, alongside open-ended play. Through it, children learn and discover, but also express their creativity, and the play kitchen supports the expression of the “100 languages”, a cornerstone of Reggio pedagogy. 

Through pretend play, children reproduce the behaviors they observe around them, progressing from simple imitation to the creation of complex scenarios and role-playing games in which they are no longer the main actor but the director.

Jean-Ovide Decroly regarded imitation and play as “anticipatory instincts”, essential maturation factors that give children a comprehensive understanding of reality. For Célestin Freinet, through imitation, just as through observation or reading, individuals appropriate other people’s experience, diversifying and accelerating their own personal experience.

The importance of observation can be found in the work of Maria Montessori, who described the role of the absorbent mind in children’s learning and the importance of following their mother everywhere to observe the world. By supporting pretend play and helping with cooking, the play kitchen contributes to the sensitive periods for movement coordination (from around 18 months to 4 years), order (from 0 to 6 years), social behavior (from around 2 to 6 years), refinement of the senses (approximately 18 months - 5 years), and small objects (during the second year).

Taking part and cooking “for real” with their parents gives children the opportunity to learn from real things in the real world, as recommended by Charlotte Mason.

What is sensory-motor development?

Sensory-motor development is the process through which children develop their senses and learn to perform, master and coordinate their movements.

The senses include the best-known ones, such as sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch, as well as balance (through the vestibular system) and proprioception (the position of the body in space, provided by the somatosensory system). 

These different senses work together and in conjunction with the motor system.

In terms of motor development, two main categories of motor skills can be distinguished:

• gross motor skills, which refer to movements of the entire body or its larger limbs and muscles (legs, arms, torso, head),
• fine motor skills, which refer to movements of smaller muscles and limbs (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, tongue).

What is cognitive development?

Cognitive development is the process through which children acquire, organize and learn to use knowledge. Cognitive skills are numerous and varied, and are orchestrated by executive functions. They include, among other things, language, goal-directed behaviors, planning, cognitive flexibility, short-term memory (or working memory), long-term memory, the ability not to be distracted, the ability to control emotional reactions, etc.
 

What is socio-emotional development?

Socio-emotional development is the process through which children acquire the ability to understand, express and manage their thoughts, emotions and behavior. 

Social and emotional skills are also directly related to how children perceive themselves and develop relationships with others.

What age groups is it suitable for?

The play kitchen is useful from the time children begin imitating adults’ activities in their play and contributing to household tasks, from around 18 months. Pretend play remains useful until approximately 4 to 6 years of age, and children can enjoy it alone or with others.

Returns 

Have you received your item but it is not right for you? Don't worry, you have 14 days from the date you receive your package to return the product concerned. 

As a small family business, we are unfortunately not yet able to cover postage costs, return costs are the customer's responsibility and returns must be sent to the country from which this product was shipped, Latvia.

To be eligible for a return, please ensure that the following conditions are met :

• The product must arrive in its original, complete condition (packaging, accessories, instructions).
• The request must not concern made-to-measure products for which the customer provided personalization information (for example, a cutting or manufacturing dimension).

Please understand that we cannot accept assembled, used, or worn items because they cannot be resold.
