Description

The design of this bookcase offers immediate visibility to all the books stored there. At child height, it allows even the littlest ones to easily access their favorite books - as well as to easily put them away themselves, thus cultivating their autonomy.

The library contributes to the prepared environment of their space, and presents the interest for children to find in the blink of an eye the books that interest them, and to take them as well as to put them away just as quickly, thus participating in the development of their sense of order.

You can store up to fifteen medium to large books in the front of the Montessori library, but the latter also has the advantage of allowing you to store around thirty books and other objects on its back, and not arrange only those that are interesting to the child, following his or her pace, which frees up space and ensures that the space is as harmonious and uncluttered as possible, as recommended by Maria Montessori.

    Educational interest

What is the educational benefit of this product?

Storage furniture like the bookcase is an important element in the child's development because it facilitates autonomy.
At Maria Montessori, they are one of the essential elements of the prepared environment in which children will get busy with their activities and “work” freely. They also accompany them during the sensitive period of the order, from approximately 0 to 6 years.
This idea of supporting the development of autonomy applies to all active teaching methods.

The libraries will be one of the places where children will be able to find the tools or materials they need for their craft work at Steiner or as part of the projects in the Reggio Emilia pedagogy.
They will also find their tools, dear to Célestin Freinet, and their games, essential at Ovide Decroly, as well as their “gifts” and “occupations” at Friedrich Fröbel.

They will support our children's independent activities, fundamental in the Pikler-Lóczy pedagogy.
This is also where they will pick up their “living books”, so important to Charlotte Mason, where they will discover extraordinary stories and characters who will feed their imagination, as they have fed ours.

What is the interest from a neuroscience point of view?

    • Participation in motor and cognitive development* (*Through the exercise of tasks that require precision and planning (storage and arrangement of objects and books)).
    • Strengthening neural circuits through repetition of gestures and tasks.

    What is sensorimotor development?

Sensorimotor development is the process by which children develop their senses and learn to perform, control and coordinate their movements.

The senses include the best known ones: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, but also balance (thanks to the vestibular system) and proprioception (position of the body in space, given by the somatosensory system).

These different senses work in concert with each other and with the motor system.

In terms of motor development, we can distinguish two main categories of motor skills:

    • gross motor skills, which refers to movements of the whole body or the large limbs and muscles of the body (legs, arms, trunk, head),
    • fine motor skills, which refers to the movements of smaller muscles and limbs (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, tongue).

    What is cognitive development?

Cognitive development is the process by which children acquire, organize and learn to use knowledge. Cognitive skills are numerous, varied, and are orchestrated by executive functions. They include, among others, language, goal-directed behaviors, planning, cognitive flexibility, short-term memory (or working memory), long-term memory, the ability not to be distracted, to control emotional reactions, etc.

What is the point of this product in summary?

    • Develop fine motor skills.
    • Learn to be independent.
    • Cultivate your sense of order.
    • Strengthen his self-confidence.
