    Manufacturing partner

The company of Sabine It is centered on children, but just as importantly on the time they spend with their family. Among the many lessons of active learning approaches, one of the most important is that children develop better when they are both happy and independent. From their home in Latvia, Sabine and her family have embraced these principles, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Maria Montessori and Emmi Pikler to create something unique. Building on a family spirit and a woodworking tradition, they handcraft safe furniture that helps children develop through movement while spending time with loved ones, and always having fun.

    Educational value

What is the educational value of this product?

At their desk, your child focuses on creative, playful activities and can come and go as they please, working independently.

Independent activities are central to the educational approaches of Emmi Pikler, Maria Montessori, Loris Malaguzzi, Célestin Freinet, and Rudolf Steiner, to name just a few.

The desk will support your child’s self-expression through games, crafts, and art (knitting, modeling, construction games, painting, embroidery, etc.), which are educational cornerstones, particularly in the Steiner Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, and Freinet approaches.

There, they will discover writing and mathematics, as well as reading, particularly through living books, valued by Charlotte Mason, which will nourish their imagination.

It will also be a place where they can learn and repeat tasks at their own pace until they master them, through activities designed to develop their executive functions and certain specific skills (particularly in the Montessori approach).

What is its value from a neuroscience perspective?

    • Contributes to sensory-motor, cognitive, and socio-emotional development* (*Through support for creative and concentration-based activities, participation in household tasks that require precision, and interactions with adults and children in the family).
    • Strengthens neural circuits through the repetition of movements, tasks, and interactions.

    What is sensory-motor development?

Sensory-motor development is the process through which children develop their senses and learn to perform, master, and coordinate their movements.

The senses include the best-known ones, such as sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, as well as balance (thanks to the vestibular system) and proprioception (the position of the body in space, provided by the somatosensory system).

These different senses work together and in conjunction with the motor system.

In terms of motor development, two major categories of motor skills can be distinguished:

    • gross motor skills, which refer to movements involving the whole body or the body’s larger limbs and muscles (legs, arms, torso, head),
    • fine motor skills, which refer to movements involving smaller muscles and limbs (fingers, hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, lips, tongue).

    What is cognitive development?

Cognitive development is the process through which children acquire, organize, and learn to use knowledge. Cognitive skills are numerous and varied, and are orchestrated by executive functions. They include, among other things, language, goal-directed behavior, planning, cognitive flexibility, short-term memory (or working memory), long-term memory, the ability not to be distracted, the ability to control emotional reactions, etc.

    What is socio-emotional development?

Socio-emotional development is the process through which children acquire the ability to understand, express, and manage their thoughts, emotions, and behavior.
Social and emotional skills are also directly linked to how they perceive themselves and develop relationships with others.

What age range is it suitable for?

This set can be used from the time your child can stand steadily on their own until approximately age 7.

What are the benefits of this product in summary?

    • Contribute to their motor, cognitive, and socio-emotional development.
    • Learn to do things independently and become self-reliant.
    • Strengthen their self-confidence.
    • Collaborate on projects with guidance from their parents.
